How to Run Huron Peak

Click the “i” button in the bottom right corner of the photos for captions. From Winfield: Beyond Winfield, many vehicles, even 4×4, will not make it any farther down the road toward Huron’s trailhead. Foot travel is recommended from here. From the bridge at Winfield, continue two miles until reaching Huron/Clear Creek trailhead, on the left, which is marked by a large sign. A small parking area is here for the few vehicles that can make it up the rugged road. Start taking the switchbacks through the forest. Just after treeline, reach a flatter section, where you’ll have panoramic views of the summit, the Sawatch Range, and the Apostle peaks. Continue to follow the trail through some seasonal streams and begin to push the ridge. The trail switchbacks multiple times. After making it to the saddle, the trail gets rocky, but stays defined as it takes you to the summit.
